SILENT POCKET

I used to believe a lot of things that have since been altered due to new circumstances.  It’s a process of evolution to continually reflect on what you know while adapting as life changes your personal biases.  I used to say if you’re not doing anything special you really didn’t have to worry about keeping your security posture in an elevated form.  In some ways I feel the same for example I don’t think you need to be doing Surveillance Detection Routes (SDR) if you’re not on the job or never have been which is much more of a commonality.  Though in more recent days one track of thought has changed for me.  That’s the level I go to protect my credit/debit and work required cards. 

In the not so distant past it wasn’t likely that your cards would be compromised unless you were just foolish.  These days in the world of skimmers, remote readers, bump scans, and all the other fun things we have to deal with it’s a much more common occurrence.  Recently I was able to get my hands on a few items from Silent Pocket and I have to say they not only perform to specification they look good while they do it.  Specifically I was sent the Simple Card Wallet (MSRP $29.99) and Key Fob Guard (MSRP $29.95 on sale for $19.95). 

The first thing is to understand how vulnerable you are before you recognize the value in these awesome products.  Even the most average person will be victim to identity theft in one form or another.  It can take many forms but these products focus on keeping people from gaining access to your accounts via the cards you carry and gaining access to your car or others area by capturing your key fob information.  For a very small amount your average person with no technical knowledge can go online and buy what they need to perpetrate these crimes.  The best way to protect yourself from this act is educate yourself on the adversaries’ capabilities, understand the likelihood of this being an issue, and take measures to prevent it. 

Let’s talk about the Simple Card Wallet first. Over the last few months I’ve traveled quite a bit and literally driven from the east coast to south western Arizona.  The wallet has not only held on to everything I shoved into it its aged beautifully.  I consider myself a fairly active person and due to the nature of my work I need to be able to identify myself at all times.  That means my wallet and credentials go with me everywhere I go.  Life on the sojourn isn't easy on my kit and often times the life cycle is cut in half.  I recognize that I am the reason I cant have nice things.  While she maybe a bit worse for wear looks wise to some I think the leather has aged wonderfully.   More importantly my cards information is still protected and hasn't failed any of the tests Ive put them through.   If you don't have a wallet that leaves you crying for a chiropractor or happen to be a front pocket carry type like me I cant recommend this minimalist wallet enough.  Ive managed to cram quite a few more cards and other toys in since day one and so far so good!

Moving on to the Key Fob Guard I haven't used it as much as I have the wallet but Ive put it through its paces none the less.  More importantly when I recently met with a buddy who loves to remotely set off your car alarm mid way through lunch it left him with the manifestation of a sad panda.  Frustrating a friend who tends to rejoice in glee from frustrating others is not only entertaining but also well worth the price.  I can say for certain that when my keys are protected they're protected from "friend" and foe alike.
