JEEP ENHANCEMENTS - UNDER HOOD LIGHT

JEEP ENHANCEMENTS - UNDER HOOD LIGHT

September 26, 2016

A few months back a good friend who is MUCH more mechanically orientated than I am was showing me this great modification he had completed on his jeep. He's one of those guys who has a jeep like Batman's utility belt with all the innovations and mods. Im a big fan of not only seeing what people come up with but what he told me next gave me a huge smile!

So what was the mod you ask? We he had a hood light that was LED, hooked into the underside of his hood, had a nice long retractable cord, and the last finally awesome feature the light had a magnetic base. So not only can you take the light all the way to the back end of the jeep you can stick it to the underside while you work so you don't have to hold the light in your teeth or screw with where you last saw your headlamp. Now the immediate follow up question was of course...Where can I get one of those? His epic response was ebay because it was a feature on older model suburbans. Following that it was off to ebay for me and I found a virtually new light just as he told me. Now at the time of the install I was still waiting on the LED replacement bulb but have since gotten it all working with great results.

Thats right folks innovation from twenty something years ago.

So if you're a fan of great mods with minimal install if you can even call it that check out this mod. That being said the install consisted of screwing the box into my hood and then connecting the wires. I think it took me longer to figure out which LED light to get for it than it did for him to have it in and running.

Death by 1000 Cuts
Death by 1000 Cuts

In roughly 900 CE until its outlaw in 1905, the Chinese developed a method of execution called Lingchi.  This form of execution served as torture, public embarrassment, and punishment that continued well after death.  The practice was reserved for severe crimes -  treason, patricide/matricide, and mass murder.  Its continued use is reported through the Vietnam War, even after it was outlawed several years earlier.  While it may conjure images of just 1,000 cuts, the practice of Lingchi was a brutal and drawn-out process.  Executioners would deliver justice through a series of cuts to the skin, removing pieces of flesh intended to see how many cuts a person could withstand before dying.  The practice was generally followed by amputation, a stab to the heart, or decapitation.

Several months ago I was sent a few pairs of glasses from Epoch by a friend.  He asked only for my honest opinion and evaluation.  In the ensuing months I traveled to a few countries, more than a handful of states, and took on several work sets from relaxed to professional attire needs.

HDT had a huge impact on me when I was younger and still at times whispers in my ear when I'm looking for that solution that seems untenable at best and precarious more often than not.  His writing when I first encountered it was sophisticated yet obviously simple.  I longed to rebel and move to a cabin on a pond to stand against the encroachment of law to the wilds of man.  Long lasting echos of simplification still encroach on my life some twenty-two years past when I enlisted for the most conforming process possible for a seventeen year old boy.
